Native American Injury Prevention Resources

Bureau of Indian Affairs: The Indian Highway Safety Program is dedicated to reducing the number and severity of traffic crashes in Indian Country by supporting education, enforcement, engineering and Safe Tribal Community Programs.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: The CDC offers a Roadway to Safer Tribal Communities Toolkit. The toolkit’s fact sheets, posters and videos highlight best practices in road safety, including use of car seats and seat belts and decreasing alcohol-impaired driving.

Indian Health Service: IHS provides funding for tribes to develop their infrastructure in injury prevention. The goal is to address the disparity in injury rates throughout American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Native CARSNative Children Always Ride Safe is a community-led and community-specific intervention program designed to help improve child passenger restraint use.

Transportation Safety for TribesTransportation Safety for Tribes is an online community working to reduce injuries and fatalities from transportation incidents in Tribal areas. Materials and resources on this site are provided by participating Tribal, State and Federal partners.
